Abstract
Ton Dietz states that the image of Africa as a continent of doom and gloom is gradually changing into an image with glimmers of hope. Business people and scientists are 'silverlining Africa'. The changing images can be noticed at conferences outside Africa, and they may also be deducted from recent scientific fieldwork experiences in Africa itself (such as the PADEV research in Burkina Faso and Ghana). Furthermore, the demographic, economic, and social statistics for almost all African countries show a shifting reality. It might well be that Africa is on the brink of a new era of a rapid breakthrough in global importance and visibility, and becoming an essential part of the world's workshop. Now it is Africa's turn!
