| Abstract |
To allow consumers to make informed decisions and to encourage them to make healthier choices many product packages contain (warning) labels. These can vary from nutrition labels and ingredient lists on food and drinks packaging to health warnings on alcohol containers, and graphic fear appeals on tobacco packs. Labeling policies vary for tobacco, food and nonalcoholic drinks, and alcoholic drinks. Findings show that many different labeling strategies are used, and that especially for alcohol products labeling is less common. While labeling strategies seem promising, more research is needed to find out which specific labeling strategy is most effective for which product.
