Abstract Commas and other grammatical inflections are more often associated with the basics of legal English than with the lofty decisions of a high court. Yet as every eager law student knows, a grammatical interpretation of legal documents is one of the most important tools for juridical analysis. The lacemnet of a single comma is at the very crux of the controversial case District of Columbia v. Heller that the US Supreme Court has been scrutinizing over the last few months.
