| Abstract |
"Traditional" Polish grammar typically analyses the inflected form Pięciu in sentences counting Polish so-called male-personal nouns such as Pięciu miłych mnichów było złych 'Five kind monks were angry' as genitive. In so doing, it necessitates learners of Polish to recognise (at least) 5 sentence patterns. In this paper I argue that this number may be reduced to three by taking a different approach: the inflected form of the numeral could be treated in the same way numerals are treated for other genders, and so, this would constitute agreement rather than government.
