Big Books in Gender Studies On Collective Editing, Feminist Pedagogies and Changing Lives

This roundtable discussion was first recorded at the NOG Research Day, held on October 2, 2026 at the Radboud University Nijmegen. The theme of the day was ‘Fierce & Fearless or Stealthy & Strategic? Reclaiming the Feminist Project in the University.’ As not every co-editor was available to attend in person, we opened up the discussion to potentially include everyone. The following discussion then represents insights from editors who were involved in the following recent and forthcoming (new editions of) gender studies handbooks: (1) Rose Mary Allen and Sruti Bala, Handbook of Gender Studies in the Dutch Caribbean, Brill, 2024; (2) Nancy Jouwe, Gloria Wekker and Maayke Botman, Kaleidoscopic Vision: The Black, Migrant, and Refugee Women’s Movement in The Netherlands, Amsterdam UP, 2025; (3) Lies Wesseling and Aagje Swinnen, Tegen de golven in: Feministen in gesprek, Walburg Pers, 2025; and (4) Rosemarie Buikema, Liedeke Plate and Kathrin Thiele, Doing Gender in Media, Art and Culture: A Contemporary Guide to Gender Studies, 3rd edition, Routledge, 2026.
