Special section on high-performance networking for distributed data-intensive science

Future Generation Computer Systems presents a special section on high-performance networking for distributed data-intensive science. Many of the research questions that mainly address management and performance problems are discussed in papers published in this section. A paper entitled Scheduling and Flexible Control of Bandwidth and In-transit Services for End-to-End Application Workflows, discusses end-to-end scientific application workflows that integrate high-end experiments and instruments with large scale simulations and end-user displays are becoming increasingly important.
