Optimization of care for survivors of childhood cancer

Childhood cancer survivors are at risk for premature morbidity and mortality due to previous cancer treatment. High-quality care for childhood cancer survivors is important to facilitate early detection of these so-called late adverse effects and timely initiation of interventions to preserve health. Within this thesis we show some important steps towards an optimization of care for childhood cancer survivors. Several aspects of the quality of care cycle are addressed, including the evaluation of evidence gaps, the generation of new evidence, and the development of international harmonized clinical practice guidelines. Worldwide collaboration between clinicians, researchers, guideline developers and patients is of utmost importance in bridging the gaps between research and clinical practice. In this way, we can optimize the quality of care for childhood cancer survivors and thereby improve their quality of life.
