Abstract With the advent of highly effective combination antiretroviral therapy (cART), infection with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) has become a chronic disease rather than a death sentence. Effectively treated individuals however may experience a higher than normal risk for developing non-infectious comorbidities, including cardiovascular, renal and bone disease. This thesis summarizes findings from studies we performed into the effects of antiretroviral treatment and HIV-infection on metabolism, kidney and bone.
