In the Netherlands, the intervention 'Responsive Aggression Therapy' (Re-ART) has been developed because Juvenile Justice Institutions needed a program for those juveniles with severe aggression problems and a (very) high risk of recidivism. The program is flexible: the intensity and content of the treatment can be adjusted to specific individual needs of the juvenile delinquent, which should make it cultural-sensitive. A quasi-experimental study has been conducted in a judicial institution for juveniles, with an experimental group (n = 63; Re-ART-group) and a waiting list control group of juveniles that receiving Treatment as Usual (n = 28; TAU-group). Both groups were multi-ethnic. Results showed that the Re-ART-group scored significantly better on recidivism risk, aggressive behavior, coping skills, cognitive distortions and responsiveness (like motivation and distrust) that the TAU-group.
- Link
