- Distribution and Status of the grass snake (Natrix natrix) in the Netherlands:
The grass snake is the most common snake in the Netherlands and the only one occuring outside nature reserves. The three main distribution cores are positioned in a semicircle around the IJsselmeer. In the southern half of the Netherlands the grass snake is very rare. Monitoring data collected by volunteers shows a stable population, although regional declines and increases are known.
