Disaster management studies are developing very rapidly in the last decade. One of the research approaches is by using the positivism approach. Positivism approach is closely related to the theme of socio-cultural and civil society. This is particularly in relation to patterns and community response to disaster situations that threaten (adaptive capacity) as well as the ability of communities to make adjustments and provide reciprocal actions in facing disaster.
This book attempts to describe the identification of local knowledge of the behavior and culture of the community in the long period of time. In addition, the book also tries to identify social capital in the community in relation to environmental management and disaster risk reduction. Various physical characteristics of the region, local wisdom, and local culture related to the adaptation of coastal communities in environmental management and disaster threat in coastal areas are dealt more clearly in this book.
This book will also explain and present the data, either in the form of statistical data and spatial data, in relation to give an overview and explanation in the context of coastal dynamics. In some chapters and sections will be presented the data related to demographic data, social data, geographic data, environmental data by using a case study of an area. Demak coastal area case studies selected in this explanation and exposure. Demographic data, social data, the data potential of the region within the scope of Demak coastal area is presented by using tables, visual diagrams and maps. Furthermore, this book describes examples of empirical results of the integrated analysis of social capital in society in relation to the capital utilization for sustainable development.
The urgency of the writing of this book is to provide a variety of information and data to local governments related to local wisdom and traditional community social capital for sustainable development planning. In addition, this book is also important for the development of research methods in integrated multidisciplinary approach. This book is expected to provide additional references, understanding, and knowledge to bachelor, master, and PhD students to conduct their research.
