AbstractSome investigations show the existence of a relationship between sleep and behavioural problems during the day, but much remains unclear. The statement of the problem is: ‘What relationship does exist between problem behaviour during the day and sleep problems regarding to individuals with a mental disability’. This investigation consisted of following the behaviour during the day and the sleep behaviour of 50 individuals with a mental disability (half autism) during two weeks and examining the relative context. Supervisors completed daily two short questionnaires. The conclusion is that a relation between sleep behaviour and behaviour during the day is found in most clients, with or without autism. The nature and intensity of this relationship varies per client. It’s not appropriate to make generalizing statements.
