| Samenvatting | Stenning and van Lambalgen claim that human reasoning uses not one
logic, but multiple logics and that their logic: 'Closed World Reasoning' could very well be one of them. Moreover, they claim that Closed World Reasoning, or something akin to it, and not classical propositional logic, is the logic used in the Suppression Task. They show that the data of the task matches the conclusions that Closed World Reasoning predicts for the task. However, the fit could be better in certain places, especially with the classically invalid inferences. A possible explanation is that some people indeed reason with 'Closed World Reasoning' and that some reason more strictly, with something more akin to classical logic. By using two groups:
a strict Math group and a lose Alpha/Gamma group this hypotheses is
tested in this paper. The findings are mixed. |
