SamenvattingStrengthening accountability relationships in education is perceived as important for improving the quality of education. The school, and its teachers, has increasingly become a locus of demand for accountability. In this thesis, formulated accountability policies for teachers in Jamaica are studied. This thesis gives insight in the background of accountability reforms in Jamaica, the role of different stakeholders in the process of policy formulation, dynamics in the formulation process, stakeholders‟ perceptions with regard to accountability policies, and tensions which might affect implementation. Different dimensions of educational accountability are explored, and put in connection with the formulated accountability policies in Jamaica.
