| Samenvatting | The exploratory study examines the role of epistemic communities in the political decision-making process, by investigating the information-seeking behaviour of Members of the Dutch Lower House of Representatives (MPs). This was done by a case study analysis of the parliamentary proceedings regarding bill #31 466 on the national Electronic Health Record in the period 2008-2009. The research methodology consisted of document analysis of parliamentary papers, three interviews, and a digital survey of Dutch MPs per faction, achieving a 50% response rate. The results included: the National IT Institute for Healthcare plays an important role in the decision-making process; internal (both informal and formal) contacts are considered to be the MPs’ most important and reliable source of information; and the information-seeking behaviour and decision-making process can be accurately conceptualized by the social interaction model on decision-making. Recommendations are made for further research. |
