| Abstract | Children in the Palestinian Territories suer from violence continuously.
There are psychosocial programs that aim to improve the children's wellbeing,
but there are few studies about such programs. This has resulted
in a lack of a systematic approach, overview and consensus. Therefore it is
important to gain more knowledge on this subject and see which activities
and methods are seen as eective ways to alleviate children's problems, what
factors can contribute to the eectiveness and which reasons can be found
to explain dierences in the use of methods between dierent psychosocial
programs.
From interviews with six NGO-professionals, it can be concluded that
most of them see activities that include play and art as eective. Including
parents in the activities was seen as an eective method or as positively
eecting the eectiveness of other activities. Movement restrictions on the
other hand were seen as negatively in
uencing the eectiveness of activities.
Dierent needs, such as safety and alternative education were reasons to organize
various psychosocial activities. Dierences in the use of methods is
also explained by vision that is probably derived from education and experience,
but also by capacities of the NGOs and the fact that the programs
included dierent target groups. |
