AbstractThis thesis studies the feasibility of pension reform with respect to the pension age in the Netherlands. Two types of voting analyses are hereby used: a median voter analysis based on the median voter theory and a voting coalition analysis based on the age cohorts and income groups that gain or lose from the proposed pension reform. Both variants are in turn studied with restitution through the income tax and the VAT. Simulations with an OLG-model show that an increase of the pension age in the Netherlands is only feasible with restitution through the VAT. An increase of the pension age in the Netherlands to 67 is in this case feasible after 2020. A further increase of the pension age in the Netherlands to 70 is feasible after 2015. Both the younger low-income groups and the median-age cohorts right before retirement will lose by an increase of the pension age. The younger high-income groups and the older-age cohorts after retirement will gain by an increase of the pension age.
