SamenvattingDiscusses the importance of connectionist theory for modern psychology. The basic characteristics and concepts of the theory, including the assumptions of parallel activity and distributed representation, are presented and the historical background of connectionism is described. The application of connectionist theory to a model of simulation of brain activity is considered. It is contended that because of its internal flaws, connectionism has little relevance for cognitive psychology and neurophysiology.
