R. van Furth.Department of Neurology, Sint Lucas Andreas Ziekenhuis, Amsterdam, The Netherlands; Department of Neurosurgery, Academic Medical Centre, University of Amsterdam, The Netherlands The authors describe a 29 year old woman who presented with progressive neck pain and weakness in both arms. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of the cervical spine revealed a tumour compressing the spinal cord. During surgery an intradural extramedullary tumour was found. Unexpectedly, further imaging showed a second lumbar tumour. Microscopy of both tumours was consistent with anaplastic ependymoma, which is very rare at the spinal level. We hypothesise that the lumbar anaplastic ependymoma was possibly a drop metastasis of the cervical ependymoma.
