SamenvattingThe European Commission's Action Plan for a more Coherent European Contract Law is an important step towards a European Code of Contracts. However, it is doubtful whether such a Code would make European contract law more coherent and whether it would make the internal market function more smoothly, as the Commission expects. Nevertheless, there may be good reasons for such an (optional) code. Those reasons should play a more prominent role in the debate.
