SamenvattingAssessed judgments about non-verbal emotional expressions inferred from head- and spinal-positions, and explored the relationship between these and the Ss' own emotional states. 3 head positions and 7 spinal positions were varied; 60 college students judged the resulting 21 drawn figures on anger, happiness, caring, insecurity, fear, depression, and self-esteem. The Adjective Checklist, a mood questionnaire, and the Amsterdamse Stemminglijst (L. M. J. De Sonneville, T. Schaap, J. J. Elshout, 1984) were administered. Findings indicate a significant 3-way interaction for head position, spinal position, and emotion. The completely straight figure was positively evaluated, and the one with pelvis backward and shoulder and head forward was judged most negatively. No significant correlation was found between Ss' own emotional states and the assessed emotional states. Each physical posture was associated with a unique pattern of emotions.
